Here we will detail everything that you need to start to make sushi.

  •  Bamboo mat

    A bamboo mat (makisu) is a rolling mat made of thin strips of bamboo. The mat is used for classic sushi roll (Makizushi)and the inside-out roll (uramaki). You can try to use other things but the bamboo mat is the perfect equipment for the sushi roll because while rolling you can maintain the pressure even. When is used for inside-out roll the mat is wrapped with plastic foil or anything that can keep the rice from stick to the mat.

  • Nori (dried seaweed)

   After the vinegared rice, Nori is the most important component of sushi. It holds the rice and the ingredients. Nori is seaweed that is edible and has been processed in sheets that looks like paper. The nori is commonly used roasted but you can also find the unroasted one. It is always recommended to roast the nori no matter if you bought the roasted version. Nori is sold in different sizes but the most common is 7 inches x 8 inches.

  • Sushi rice At the time of making sushi, preparing the rice is the most important thing and selecting the rice is also an important part. You can select any grain to use for sushi but the short grain is the best. If you have the money the best option is to buy the Japanese rice (shari) that is specially made for rice.
  • Rice Vinegar

In order to the sushi rice taste like a real sushi you need the rice vinegar. The rice vinegar gives the rice a sweet flavor with a taste aroma. You have to prepare the vinegar and add it to the rice after the rice is made and still hot.

There are other equipments that can be very helpful for making sushi,Cutting boards, Fine-mesh strainer, Fine grater, Liquid and dry measuring cups, Measuring spoons, Plastic wrap, Tweezers, Vegetable peeler, Electric rice cooker. You can still make sushi without this equipments but it can help a lot for sushi making.
